Well how lucky were we to shoot this wedding in the beautiful village of Ravello on the Amalfi coast in Italy. Chris and Leanne changed their plans from having their wedding at home and instead decided to travel to Italy for it. To our delight they took us along with them which of course is a dream come true and a chance for us to get some stunning wedding photography.
The backdrop did not disapoint because Ravello, set like an eagle’s nest above the dizzying landscape of Italy’s Amalfi coast, is the most peaceful and charming resort on the Neapolitan Riviera. Early summer is the best time to explore its largely traffic-free lanes or to wander among the terraces and pergolas of its elegant gardens, from where there are vertigo-inducing glimpses of the Mediterranean miles below.
Chris and Leanne were staying in Villa Maria which had views to die for looking over the village and coast below. This is where we carried out Leanne’s prep shots .The bridal suite itself was light and airy with colourful decor and big double doors opening onto the balcony where the bride and groom were due to hold their reception and why not with views like that. We then walked through the streets and the town square to the Town Hall gardens. This walk was charming as all the crowds clapped the wedding party and wished them well ,a brilliant opportunity for reportage photography capturing every moment.
The Town Hall gardens over looked the mountains and coast, a truely magical setting! After the service and group shots we took the couple off for their romantic photography. The hotel proprietor of the Villa Belvedere gave us permission to shoot in the beautiful gardens. We then ventured through the streets to locations that James and I had spent the previous day identifying as suitable for the ‘scripted reality’ photography that we do at this stage of the day. Not wanting the couple away from their guests for too long we then headed back to the main square where once again the crowds applauded the couple in the true generous Italian fashion. Here we took some group shots on the steps and the throwing the bouquet which was very amusing as a group of Irish lads spotted this and decided they wanted to do their version too.
It was then back to the Villa Maria for the reception and on into the evening where we even took a shot of all the guests with sparklers, a request of the Bride and Groom. The wedding was a truely magical experience and one we were never forget. The setting the couple and all the guests were perfect and they made us feel so welcome!
