Ben and Amy contacted us last year to shoot their wedding at The Gallivant in Camber Sands, near Rye in East Sussex. They wanted a local photographer to capture their big day and of course we have shot at The Gallivant before. It’s a great venue decorated in a beach style, the beach being just a short walk away. The back drop couldn’t be more perfect!
Ben and Amy had booked us for the whole day from capturing the prep shots to the first dance. It was a fun happy wedding and I don’t think Amy stopped smiling the whole day. She had chosen six bridesmaid’s and a maid of honour, which is always lively and makes for some animated pictures. I loved the colour sceme of blue dresses and yellow sun flowers which worked perfectly with the beach setting.
The weather had been predicted to rain so we were all a little worried that the beach may not happen but although it was overcast we only had a light shower until we had just finished on the beach and then it the heavens opened, very lucky indeed!
We covered the wedding in our usual style, which is mostly documentary ( reportage) photography, capturing those natural shots causing no interference. We do have a little bit of time where we shoot the formal group shots and after this we take the Bride and Groom away for a little time to get some romantic slightly posed shots but we really let the couple find poses that they are comfortable with . We had a laugh with the wedding party arranging them on the dunes for an interesting group shot, the guests certainly seemed to enjoy this and the outcome is great.
We stayed an half and hour after the first dance in order to shoot the guests having a dance and throw some shapes on the dance floor.
